About 100 young people convened at the Esperenza (means “hope”) Spanish church in Baltimore on Sabbath, August 12, for the Sabado Joven (Youth Sabbath) sponsored by Chesapeake Conference’s Spanish Youth Federation. The event, held in a different location each year, gives Hispanic youth an opportunity to worship and eat together—and focus on issues they face in their lives.

This year, Edwin Robecchi, a Virginia-based pastor in the Allegheny East Conference, spoke about how to cultivate a healthy spiritual life in a world of technology and social media—tools that can be used to share the gospel and build one another up, or to tear down and hurt one another.

“It was a beautiful experience to encourage the youth to stay connected with Jesus,” says Jackie Lopez, Spanish Youth Federation vice president and member of the New Castle Spanish church in Delaware. Photos by Melvin Galdamez
