Catherine Juneau (Kitty), a lifelong Adventist, serves as Director of Adventist Disaster Response (DR) for Chesapeake Conference from her home, a voluntary position. Her role is capacity building through training and networking. She helped establish the Chesapeake Conference Disaster Response Executive Committee, bringing DR leadership members from around the conference to share ideas and help chart the course of the program.

Kitty became interested in Adventist Community Services (ACS) as a child working alongside her grandmother in her home church in Kilmarnock, Virginia.

She has attained the highest level of training through ACS Disaster Response and is a Certified Trainer for Columbia Union. She spends time organizing, coordinating, and attending meetings at different levels of government and in the private sector representing Adventist Disaster Response. She serves on donations management committees and is considered to be very well versed in that field. Kitty’s training has lead her to service in a number of different states, including being in  Louisiana for several weeks during Katrina and Rita where she was the Adventist Disaster Response Liaison at the FEMA Joint Field Office in Baton Rouge.  Her greatest challenge is trying to cover the territory of two states, encouraging church members to come together for training in preparation for becoming ACS Disaster Response leaders. The greatest reward is meeting so many wonderful, dedicated people of many faiths, who are anxious to serve the Lord by serving others.

Kitty was attending Columbia Union College when she met her husband, Rosse, through a mutual friend. They will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary in 2008. Kitty and Rosse have two grown children and five grandchildren.

Kitty enjoys spending time with Rosse and the family and being involved in the community where she has been a member of the Sandy Spring, Maryland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for 29 years, serving as President, Chaplin, and on various fundraising and planning committees. She is a member of the Sandy Spring Museum and Garden Club. Kitty serves on the Executive Board of the Montgomery General Hospital Women’s Board. She volunteers regularly at the Hospital Thrift Shop and is a long time member of The Brighton Quilters.

A member of the Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist Church for 18 years, Kitty served as the Community Services Leader and Assistant Head Deaconess. She continues to serve as a Deaconess and considers it a great privilege. Spending considerable time in the children’s division as the five grandchildren progressed from one level to the next, was a wonderful experience.  Now, she particularly enjoys meeting and greeting visitors and members on Sabbath mornings in the church foyer.
